Was having a discussion with Areeb and Bush about this.
Well Bushra brought up this issue. Would a Hindu person, or any idol-worshipping person ever make it to heaven? In the Qur’an, idolatry is considered the worst possible offense and sin, and those who follow that path are destined for hell. I…
Good question. Hinduism doesn’t worship Idols, but revere them in something known as ‘pooja’, which doesn’t have a direct English translation. They revere idols in memory and commemoration of all the different reincarnations of one god, Brahman. You could argue that the relationship of the Murti to the worshipper is like that of the Sacred Virgin Mary to the Catholic believer; both misinterpreted as idolatry, but monotheist in their own right in some form. An image cannot be equated with a deity and the object of worship is the deity whose power is inside the image, and the image is not the object of worship itself.
All Gods in Hinduism are reincarnations of one God. You could argue that idol worship happens in every aspect of life, e.g. money. However, it’s said that Allahsubhanwa’tala sent up to three hundred thousand prophets to earth before the Prophet Muhammad pbuh according to hadiths.Whether or not they go to hell…I’d personally hope not, but it is Islam and Islam is strict on Idolatry. It also gives a place in heaven to believers of one God, which arguably Hinduism is.
God the Knower; allahu alim.
Yeah, I know Hinduism stems from the worship of one (and then stems into a trinity and then so on). But the actual Hindu culture promotes the worship of idols. I guess that’s what I meant, idol-worship. Not strictly, Hinduism. A farmer in a culture that promotes idol worship, will think the rain gods are happy with him when it finally rains. Makes sense, doesn’t it? But that’s still a form of idol worship. It’s not really his fault that he’s brought up in that culture, so why should he be punished for it? Yeah, at the end God knows best I suppose, but it’s still worth investigating. You mentioned in your previous post that “Allah is too big and open for my deen to be small and closed.”, so I’d like to believe there’s more this story.
